2019-20 Patriotic Art Contest results

This year's Young American Creeative Patriotic Art contest, which has been in effect since 1979, was held again - and we have a winner! Her name is Lola Hales from Clayton. Below is her submission titled "Sweet Memories" done in acrylic paint, along with her description of her entry.

Sweet Memories

Description of her paiting:

“My painting is that of my grandpa named William H. Harrel 3, he passed away July 31st, 2011. William served two years in Vietnam, joined the special forces and also became a Golden Knight. My grandpa worked so hard till the day he died and I'm so proud of him for that. Not only is he America’s hero but he's my hero also, even after his years of retirement when the nation was devastated by 9/11 he tried to get back up and serve his country one last time. However he was too old and had to step aside for our young new heroes. William took great pride in serving his country, his family loved him so dearly.

"In the painting 'Sweet Memories' I painted an old picture I had found of me and my grandpa. We always spent so much time together, he was like my best friend. I remember how we would always go hunting or camping together. My main goal was to forever freeze our love in time and to make sure no one would ever forget this fallen hero."

Congratulations to Lola!
